Our workstreams
The UK Liver Alliance has established workstreams in three key areas: early detection, reducing inequalities, and workforce development. Work will be developed with liver disease patients as experts by experience. The workstreams will develop a comprehensive evidence base to inform best practice in the NHS and to advocate with policy-makers, government and legislators.
Workstream 1 – Early detection, diagnosis and primary care including pathways to secondary care
Pioneering clinical pathways to detect liver disease at a much earlier stage in primary care allows for interventions that will improve clinical outcomes (e.g. weight management services, alcohol support services) and fast-track referrals to secondary care where appropriate.
Workstream leads: Dr Andrew Yeoman and Dr Helen Jarvis
Workstream 2 – Reducing inequalities in liver disease outcomes and care
This workstream will produce a set of standards for networks using evidence-based data. This will include best practice guidance, clinical guidance, quality standards, care bundles, health inequalities toolkit and good practice infrastructure (e.g. IQILS accreditation scheme for liver services, BSG Quality Service framework).
Workstream leads: Dr Tim Cross, Dr Coral Hollywood & Dr Rebecca Jones
Workstream 3 – Ensuring that liver disease has the right workforce in place to improve outcomes
This workstream aims to identify the optimal workforce that is needed to deliver effective liver disease care including the provision and number of hepatologists, specialist nurses, allied health care professionals and to influence workforce planning to ensure universal quality care.
Workstream lead: Prof. Philip Newsome
